In the film "Wild Style" Grandmaster Caz appears playing basketball at the Elizabeth Barrett Browning School on East 184th Street. In the 1980s hip hop spilled over to the schools.

Inspired by Kool Herc, Curtis Fisher decided to become a DJ in 1974. Starting out as DJ Casanova Fly he shortened his name to Caz and adopted the title Grandmaster after a lightning fast turntable exhibition.
