BEAM launches at 1pm on Friday 22 June with the BEAM Symposium and runs through to 4pm on Sunday 24 June. Over the weekend we have an amazing programme of performances, installations, workshops and demonstrations from an array of international artists whose work is united by their interest in the physical exploration of electronic music and sound creation.
Festival highlights include Japanese artist Tomomi Adachi performing extended voice and sound poetry; two renowned instrumental virtuosi Carol Robinson and Frances-Marie Uitti; a world premier collaboration between headliners Bruno Zamborlin and Ed Handley of Plaid performing with Mogees; former Throbbing Gristle collaborator Julie Wilson-Bokowiec in an 8 channel vocal work; live coding performance from Benoit and the Mandelbrots; analogue synths with Thomas Lehn; John Bowers inverting scale, creating a wall of sound and cinematic image from tiny “infra-instruments”; Sally Golding working with 16mm film projectors as musical instruments; Carles Lopez performing on the Reactable; three newly-created sonic installations by Mike Blow, Alex Allmont and Shirley Pegna, co-commissioned with Oxford Contemporary Music; plus as whole host of installations and demonstrations by artists selected through the BEAM open call and two masterclass workshops with Marco Donnarumma and live coding with Benoit & the Mandelbrots.
