Swiss musician Hans Koch integrates saxes and clarinets with sampling, sequencing, and electronic sounds. He has worked with numerous musical groups in Switzerland and worldwide including the Barry Guy New Orchestra, the London Improvisers Orchestra, and in the group Koch-Schütz-Studer.

Andrea Parkins is a New York based composer, electro-acoustic instrumentalist and sound artist especially acclaimed for her uniquely gestural/textural approach to her electronically-processed accordion and inventive use of live sound processing. Her work has been presented both worldwide and in NYC; at the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Kitchen, and Diapason Gallery for sound.

Collision Zone Live will mix field recordings of natural and urban sounds with improvised music by Y.E.R.M.O. and intuitive vocals by Otobong Nkanga. Analogous Projects is pleased to announce Epic Doom: Black Metal City, a generative sound- and video-installation illustrating societal ills as emergent phenomena. It utilizes the familiar and extreme black-metal aesthetic to allude to modern society’s shared sense of panic. This immersive installation processes the physical actions of visitors and passersby and re-presents those actions in real time, providing illustrations of human agency and diffusion of responsibility.

Admission will be free and open to the public.

Nu Mu [sic!] Unlimited 2009, the world’s first virtual new music festival, is intended to give tonal and non-tonal composers alike an opportunity to expand their creative range by moving beyond their “comfort” zones to explore imagery and sound worlds with which they may have had little previous experience. It is hoped their explorations of sight and sound in multiple dimensions of time will, in turn, reward the public with fresh ideas and insights about the relationship between cinema and music. urban sound stories is a five-part series of sounds and photographs as soundscapes of European cities. The artists participating in this “curated by”project were selected by Gruenrekorder, a German based organization and label for phonography, field recording and soundscape.

Five sound artists — Simon Whetham, Tobias Bolt, Eric Cordier, Lasse-Marc Riek and Roland Etzin — explore eight places each, in five different cities, using the means of phonography and photography. The exploration of artificial and natural space within the city takes place within the same space of time. Continue reading
