System requirements

Windows 2000/XP system with IE 6 or Firefox 1.5 using: Cortona VRML 4.2, Flash 8+, and Windows Media player 10+, color display with ≥1024x768 resolution, 5.1 or stereo audio, hi-specification CPU and graphics card. Note: This artwork cannot be viewed correctly on Mac systems as Cortona for OSX does not support Flash movie textures and sound nodes.

Installation of required plug-ins and media players

1. Download the Flash plug-in here: www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
2. Download the Cortona VRML plug-in here: www.parallelgraphics.com/products/cortona
3. Download the Windows Media Player here: www.windowsmedia.com/download

Setup of Cortona plug-in

1. right click and select 'Preferences'
2. select 'Renderer' tab and choose DirectX Renderer (the artwork will not display properly using the OpenGL renderer as it does not support flash textures).
3. [tick under Renderer options] Anti-aliasing: Real-time (if possible) . Textures: Optimize textures for quality . Optimization: Intel Pentium III and higher . Renderer version: Auto .

Configure the VRML file on the left according to the above instructions, then refresh this page. The VRML file should now appear identical to the static GIF image on the right, signifying that the Cortona plug-in has been properly configured.

Navigation in Cortona

- to move within the world use the 'up', 'down', 'left', and 'right' arrow keys or the mouse with the left mouse-button pressed.
- use 'plan' mode to move forward, move backward, turn left, and turn right.
- use 'pan' mode to move forward, move backward, move left, and move right.
- use 'turn' mode to look up, look down, look left, and look right.
- to level the current view, click 'align'.
- to change viewpoints within the world, use 'view' or the 'page-up' and 'page-down' keys.
- to return to the starting viewpoint, click 'restore'.
