Our hotel was located right next to the main highway that crossed town and the hum is that of non-stop traffic passing, mostly trucks with goods. Just a few days earlier, the Taliban up north in the mountains had seized a Pakistani army convoy that carried weapons and a some tanks. During the evening we saw a big convoy of Pakistani army trucks passing by our hotel, heading up north to launch a counter offensive to recapture their lost goods. (in which they succeeded after a battle that lasted a few days)

ruins of Taxila

Taxila, once the centre of Buddhist studies in ancient times BC, a place where greeks, jews, hindus and buddhists lived together in peace. we often crossed the street to get a chai or a small bite in one of the stalls. in front of the entrance, various kids were always begging. even though the festival was free in (as most musical festivals in India are), people of lowest classes or homeless folks were not allowed in. Kids came up to us to get some change or a piece of food while you can hear of the classical singers performing. holy sounds on a backdrop of contrasting reality.

g.pitsin-bells

Sveta Troitsa (or the Church of the Holy Trinity) was built in Bansko, Bulgaria, between 1810 and 1850.
