STEIM (Studio for electro-instrumental music) organizes the Patterns + Pleasure Festival a festival for adventurous contemporary electronic music, on 26, 27 and 28 September at Frascati Amsterdam. This three-day festival presents the latest and most adventurous contemporary electronic music from today. There will be lectures, workshops, debates and performances by musicians and sound artists from home and abroad. Harvestworks Digital Media Center presents the 3rd biannual New York Electronic Arts Festival [May 27th - Sept. 25th] Celebrating all forms of innovative new technology and art, Bora Yoon and Luke DuBois perform at the historic St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Wall Street church (across from Ground Zero), alongside Satoshi Takeishi’s “Whirlpools”, w/ post-show Q&A Artist Talk to follow.

This performance will premiere new custom technology The Body Electric, developed through a residency at Harvestworks Media, with groundbreaking Kinect sensor technology by Microsoft, and acclaimed programmer and longtime collaborator Luke DuBois. Continue reading

Live Stage: Harvestworks' NY Electronic Arts Festival [us New York City]

harv.jpgHarvestworks’ New York Electronic Arts Festival:: with exhibitions, concerts and workshops from May 27, 2010 to Sep 25, 2010 :: in collaboration with The National Park Service, River to River Festival, Trinity Wall Street, Roulette and other partners, and sponsored by Tekserve, New York’s Largest Independent Apple Store and Service Facility. The festival is a summer series of concerts, workshops, and exhibitions centered on the cutting-edge work being done at the intersection of art and technology.

For the first time the Festival will take place outside of galleries and concert halls, and will explore the geography of the island through sound and related technology, re-imagining the architecture and history of the spaces. Some of Governors Island’s public spaces will be transformed into a series of sound landscapes where the public can appreciate a new dimension to the visual and auditory environment. Northern Spark is a new MN Festival modeled on a nuit blanche or “white night” festival—a dusk to dawn participatory art event along the Mississippi and surrounding areas.

Our goal is make Northern Spark a world-class event that focuses on Minnesota-based artists, pushes the boundaries of contemporary art, transforms the urban environment into a city-wide art gallery, includes a diversity of participating organizations from partner non-profits to commercial sponsors to “mom and pop” businesses, involves a broad and diverse audience who are not regular attendees of traditional art venues, and showcases the natural and urban splendors of the Twin Cities. PIXILERATIONS [v.8] is a new media festival in Providence, Rhode Island (USA) that investigates the state of new media arts through installations, performances and film/video screenings. It is part of the larger FirstWorks Festival (www.first-works.org), a multidimensional performing arts festival in Providence each fall. Pixilerations is produced by FirstWorks in collaboration with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Brown University, and the City of Providence’s Department of Art, Culture + Tourism. Now in its eighth year, Pixilerations is one of the foremost venues for new media artwork in New England. Continue reading

Switch - Creative Social Network in collaboration with Associazione Culturale Nub and Tempo Reale present Taming Technology, a two day program including performances, DJ sets, installations, lectures and workshops exploring the territory between music, art and new media. The focus will be on practices such as physical computing, interface and interaction design, hardware hacking and biological computation, framed as fields of research capable of providing new connections between the virtual domain and the physical world. With this program we take a closer look at how artists, over the last fifty years, have been using a broad range of cinematic techniques to investigate the analog and electronically induced play at the boundaries of perception. Ranging from stroboscopic patterns and psychoacoustic drones to visual chaos and pure silence, all used techniques tickle, hypnotize or physically assault the senses resulting in hallucinating trips, exercises in abstraction, and sublime audiovisual spectacles. Grammy Award-winning eighth blackbird curates and performs at the Armory’s five-day music festival, bringing together some of today’s leading new music groups, including red fish blue fish, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Sympho, and Newspeak. Within the vast Wade Thompson Drill Hall, the audience becomes part of the musical experience. Works by Steve Reich, Frederic Rzewski, John Cage, Louis Andriessen, Kurt Schwitters, David T. Little, Stefan Weisman, and Matt Marks will be performed. Closing the festival is the New York—and indoor—premiere of John Luther Adams’ percussion-only Inuksuit, which features 72 performers moving throughout the expansive hall during the performance.
