Net_Music_Weekly: Weather Scores & Sculptures

hurricane_noel_sculpture.jpgNathalie Miebach is a Boston-based artist who translates weather data into complex sculptures and musical scores.

“Recently, I have begun translating weather data collected in cities into musical scores, which are then translated into sculptures as well as being a source for collaboration with musicians. These pieces are not only devices that map meteorological conditions of a specific time and place, but are also functional musical scores to be played by musicians. While musicians have freedom to interpret, they are asked not to change the essential relationship of the notes to ensure that what is still heard is indeed the meteorological relationship of weather data.” (Scroll down for the Call for Composers.) Call: Exploring Worlds of Participatory Art, Architecture, & Music

overlaidrealities.jpgCall for Submissions :: Worldmaking as Techné: Exploring Worlds of Participatory Art, Architecture, & Music:

The editors of this book project were drawn together by a common outlook that the creation of work is the creation of concepts, joining the efforts of theory and praxis in one process (techné), and that the results of our works are the expression of an ontological proposition (worldmaking). This connection was the catalyst to host the panel discussion, The Volatility and Stability of Worldmaking as Techné, at the Inter-Society of Electronic Arts conference 2011 (ISEA 2011). Open Call: The 2011 Phonurgia Nova Prize

affichehairs.jpg Call for works 2011 :: The 2011 Phonurgia Nova Prize is open ::

What makes the Phonurgia Nova Prize unique? The invitation to leave the well trodden tracks that hinder creativity and to find hitherto unexplored ways of taking the listener on a new journey of attentive listening to the world of everyday and imaginary sound. It is an invitation to make way for new sound (Radio award). To discover new interactions between seeing and listening ( New media award). In short, this award (which attracted 142 candidates from 15 countries last year) has to do with CREATION… and the attentive exploration of sound.

It is not a music festival, although music may be one component of a piece - along with speech, voice, silence and all the other sounds of this world and beyond. Continue reading
