Live Interfaces is an international conference on research and practice in live performance technology. The conference seeks to investigate cross-disciplinary understandings of performance technology with a particular focus on issues related to the notion of liveness in interaction. A preliminary programme with a list of papers and performances is available here.
Here is a summary of the conference structure:
WORKSHOPS
Fri 7th – morning, School of Music, University of Leeds
Two workshops to choose from:
– Thor Magnusson’s hands-on introduction to Live Coding with his free/open source IXI Lang software. Participants should bring their own Mac Laptop (pre-booking required)
– Marco Donnarumma’s in-depth presentation and demo of his Xth Sense open hardware platform
PAPERS AND CONCERT HALL PERFORMANCES
Daytime, on both Fri 7th and Sat 8th, School of Music, University of Leeds
Paper presentation and performance sessions will alternate throughout both days.
Paper presentations will take place in the lecture theatres of the School of Music, on a wide array topics which include audience
perception/interaction, biophysical sensors, body hacks, gesture recognition, computer vision, digital choreography, network based
performance, live art, tangible interaction, philosophical questions underlying performance technology, and sticks.
A wide variety of concert hall performances will be staged in the adjoining Clothworkers’ Centenary Concert Hall, including musical,
audio/visual, dance and multi-channel works. These will all explore the conference theme of live interfaces, with technical approaches which include brain control interfaces, biophysical sensors, computer vision, network based interaction, interactive sculpture, live coding and cellular automata.
CLUB PERFORMANCES
Evening, Fri 7th, Hi-Fi Club
At the end of the first day, we will descend into the award-winning HiFi Club in central Leeds, to enjoy further peer reviewed
audio/visual performances. Performances have been selected for the club as being well suited for dark spaces with big speakers and well stocked bars. (Non-conference attendees are welcome to join us for the club performances, for a small fee on the door)
Live Interfaces is made possible with the support of Vitae Yorkshire, ICSRiM/School of Music in the University of Leeds, DP Creative, and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
