A Talk on The Eyeharp

eye.jpgThe Eyeharp: a Gaze-Controlled Musical Instrument :: A Talk by Zacharias Vamvakousis :: Wednesday, May 30,2012, 19:30h :: Fabra i Coats. Sant Adrià 20. Barcelona. Metro Sant Andreu :: Entrada lliure / Entrada libre / Free admission ::

The main goal of the EyeHarp was to create the first gaze or head controlled musical instrument with similar expressive potentials to a traditional musical instrument. Zacharias Vamvakousis was inspired by the EyeWriter, a low-cost eye-tracking apparatus & custom software that allows graffiti writers and artists with paralysis resulting from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to draw using only their eyes. Interacting with other people through music or creating new musical compositions might not only improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, but also be part of a rehabilitation process. Created especially for Wandsworth Park’s 300m avenue of trees, Mem Morrison’s Underscore is a sonic journey through the Thames – from Richmond Pier through to the Thames Gateway.

Using underwater recordings taken at several points along the Thames, created with sound designer and long-time collaborator Andy Pink, Mem creates a human version of the river with 25 local participants.

Live Stage: Voltage Faire & Concert [us NYC, New York]

synth.jpg Source of Uncertainty I: Control Voltage Faire & Concert :: Thursday, June 28, 2012, 3 p.m.-8 p.m. :: Source of Uncertainty I (Concert) 8 p.m. - Midnight :: Location: Seaport, 210 Front Street, New York :: FREE ::

Since most modular synthesizers are constructed at the cottage industry level and distributed online, it is difficult for users to interact with these instruments. Control Voltage Faire will be the first opportunity on the East Coast for amateur enthusiasts, professionals and the general public to experience analog synthesizer modules produced by DIY manufacturers and crafters. Like a small-scale NAMM show with the independent spirit of the Maker Faire, the Control Voltage Fair will zone in on the origins and future of modular synthesis.
