Scaffolding is a new three-hour long piece by Frozen Music created for Miami Art Museum in celebration of the exhibit New Work Miami 2010. In typical FM fashion, Scaffolding is designed to interact with aspects of the museum’s architecture to uncloak acoustical phenomena mostly hidden to the naked ear. This is achieved through sound projections emanating from a fifteen feet tall quadraphonic sound wall aimed at the building.

The word quadraphonic refers to four-speaker setups in a horizontal plane surrounding the listener. With Scaffolding, the members of FM reconfigure the quadraphonic-listening perspective by defining a vertical plane that can be experienced more like a tall movie screen (when listeners face it), or as projections from the building (when listeners face the museum). Composing with Process: Perspectives on Generative and System Music is a new Research series for Radio Web MACBA curated by Mark Fell and Joe Gilmore, which explores generative approaches (including algorithmic, systems-based, formalised and procedural) to composition and performance primarily in the context of experimental technologies and music practices of the latter part of the 20th Century.

International Symposium on Soundscapes :: Deadline: September 30, 2010 :: The deadline for the submission of proposals is: October 30, 2010

FKL and TempoReale invite you to submit scientific and musical contributions related to the theme of soundscape to the fifth symposium of Forum Klanglandschaft to be held in Florence (Italy), May 20 - 22, 2011.

The conference is held in cooperation between the two institutions, together with the contemporary art center EX3, and offers the opportunity to present, in the conference, papers, sound-works, installations and videos.

The title “keep an ear on …” suggests, as the specific theme for this edition, the need to pay attention to and also to control what we all hear, both from the point of view of the danger of noise pollution, and from the one of the aesthetic quality of our sound environment. Continue reading

Noish is the experimental sound project of Oscar Martin. A sound explorer, Martin bases his work on the deconstruction of field recordings and the creative use of technology errors. Luthier-digital with a ‚ pure data‚ environment, which he uses to develop his own experimental tools for processing and real time algorithmic-generative composition. He can be placed somewhere between Computer Music, the Aesthetics of Error, and generative Noise. He seeks the creation of virtual sound universes, imaginary soundscapes that encourage active listening and a different sensibility toward the perception of sound phenomena.
