The Hague festival for new music, has joined forces in this sixteenth edition with TAG, the ultimate platform for contemporary audio-visual art in The Hague. The programme not only presents a Greek avant-garde opera by Iannis Xenakis, but also focuses on the trailblazing work of Alvin Lucier (USA), professor of music and composition. Since 2006 Dag in de Branding has captivated audiences time and again with its one-day journeys of discovery into the world of new music. The sixteenth edition opens with a production of the opera Oresteia in the atrium of the Ministry of Finance. The rest of this edition puts the spotlight on the 79-year-old Alvin Lucier, who is travelling to The Hague especially for Dag in de Branding. As the festival unfolds, Lucier will perform a selection of some of his historical masterpieces, culminating in a new rendition of his piece entitled Sferics (1981). One particularly special feature of this rendition is the location: het Hemels Gewelf by land artist James Turrell in Kijkduin.
