Art.on.Wires is an open laboratory for live and interactive art where researchers, engineers and practitioners from various fields collaborate to explore and create a new generation of media technology for artistic performances and mixed-reality spaces.

We invite choreographers, dancers, singers, actors, musicians, composers, DJs, VJs, visual artists, programmers, set designers, light engineers, sound engineers and interested researchers to join our laboratory. The four-day event will feature workshops on artistic programming tools and interactive technologies, dorkbot talks and experimental performances. This one-night exhibition presents three newly commissioned experimental sound compositions by artists from across the country. The two-hour exhibition, occurring two days before the closing of P.P.O.W’s concurrent three artist show Debris, seeks to invert the ways that the viewer traditionally perceives an exhibition through positing sonic manipulations of its visual, written, and social material. The three new works will be presented to viewers in the darkened gallery-turned-theater, synthesized under the dislocating darkness, an additional empirical inversion and mediator between the visual gallery experience and the reconfiguration of this experience through sound. Culturgest is pleased to announce Cornelius Cardew and the freedom of listening, an exhibition and program of events curated by Dean Inkster, Jean-Jacques Palix, Lore Gablier, and Pierre Bal-Blanc.

The English composer Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981) is undoubtedly one of the major composers to have emerged in the second half of the twentieth century. His radical approach to composition and his political reflection on the status of music making led him, in the late sixties, to instigate one of the most important attempts to establish the democratic claims of avant-garde culture.
