User-driven viral media sites such as YTMND.com have created a form of “internet - native” aesthetics that also seen on sites like deviantart.com, 4chan.org, and many others, that have inspired New Media artists like Marisa Olson, Jon Satron, JonCates and Cory Arcangel to create forms such as “dirt style” and “glitch”. As the YTMND.com site states, a “YTMND” is:

A page(s) featuring a juxtaposition of a single image, optionally animated or tiled, along with large zooming text and a looping sound file. YTMND is also the general term used to describe any such site. (from ytmnd.com) Continue reading

IRZU is presenting the last event within the “Paris” component of the project “IRZU on Tour”, which is going to continue on 5 continents throughout 2010. “IRZU on Tour” features a series of artistic productions and research projects of the IRZU institute. NYC Performing Arts Spaces is pleased to announce an open call for applications for the Spring 2010 round of the Con Edison Musicians’ Residency: Composition Program.

New York City-based composers in all music genres are invited to apply for one of six (6) three-month residencies at one of three cultural facilities. The newly-expanded residency program will provide awardees with use of suitable composition and rehearsal space for a three-month period, as well as a stipend. Each facility will present a free public program featuring their resident composers’ work. Continue reading

Call for File 2010 and the File Prix Lux

file.jpgThis year, the artists, on registering their projects to take part in FILE 2010, will be competing for the FILE PRIX LUX prize.

FILE PRIX LUX was conceived to complement FILE’s actions in the area of electronic and digital languages, with the intent of rewarding, motivating and stimulating the emergence of new talents. This new initiative by FILE intends, besides the exhibition and presentation of works, to add value to such manifestations, conferring to the awarded artists a national and international impact.

Since 2000, FILE - Electronic Language International Festival constitutes an international interdisciplinary platform for the development of innovative and creative projects in the area of arts and technologies. FILE is a cultural, nonprofit organization that promotes a reflection on the main themes of the global contemporary electronic-digital context, always in a transdisciplinary vision in the political complexity of our time’s cultural universe. Chicago Phonography is a collective of artists interested in promoting creative activity in listening by broadcasting unprocessed field recordings as an ensemble in a context of live improvisation.

Sawako Kato created one of the soundtracks for this animation. Other musicians are Flying Lotus, Ghislain Poirier, Ezekiel Honig, Roberto Carlos Lange, The One AM Radio, I am Robot And Proud, Marc Hellner and Shuta Hasunuma. Each musician created a soundtrack for the same video work, so, there are 9 different versions of music for the one animation.
