Thru-You
Check this out if you haven’t already. It’s a tribute to bedroom musicians. Employing user-submitted YouTube content as his sole building blocks, Israeli musician and producer Kutiman assembled ThruYOU — a mini-album’s worth of A/V material with revelatory results. Kutiman carefully credits all of the musicians he samples, giving many unknowns a good 15 minutes of fame.
The music stands on its own. The astute producer tears through funk, dub, anthemic hip-hop, ethno-mashing drum ‘n bass, vintage loungecore, vocoder pop, and slow-burning soul throughout the project’s offerings.
Kutiman can’t be stopped. Only a week old, ThruYou initially crashed under an avalanche of traffic from curious clickers, but mirror sites sprang into action, with some also featuring audio-only versions of the tracks for download. Thanks to Jake Lancaster on Flavorpill
