Live Stage: Soiree with Rose Bolton [ca Toronto]

rosie2.jpgNAISA Toronto Artist Soiree :: February 28th 1-4pm PWYC :: at the NAISA Space Artscape Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie St #252, Toronto, CA

SOIRÉE - an evening gathering, typically in a private house, for conversation or music. Although it’s in the afternoon, the intent is the same: a time for artists to talk about their works, listen to other people’s works and network. Featured artist Rose Bolton will present and discuss their recent works. Rose Bolton considers herself a sonic landscapist. Her compositions range from orchestra, chamber and vocal music to electro-acoustic and improvisation based pieces. She has received numerous commissions and prizes, including the 2006 Norman Burgess Fund award, and the Toronto Emerging Composer award. In April 2009, her new work A Day of Infinite Time, will be premiered by the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony at the Open Ears festival. Future projects include composing electronic music for documentary film, and a Canada Council funded project to create electro-acoustic works for headphones contrasted by an ambient work for a large space with multiple speaker setup. Reblogged Organizing the Unpredictable: Tim Knowles and Pe Lang

PLZ_6811small.jpg [Image: Pe Lang + Zimoun, Untitled Sound Objects, 2008] Organizing the Unpredictable: Tim Knowles and Pe Lang + Zimoun at bitforms gallery by Alan Licht: The 2008 works by British artist Tim Knowles and Swiss duo Pe Lang + Zimoun that are teamed up in Unpredictable Forms of Sound and Motion, curated by Steve Sacks at bitforms gallery, leave a bit less to chance than the title implies. The technology-driven pieces in the show take ideas originating in 60s and 70s land art, musical minimalism, and performance art, and situates them within constraints reminiscent of a scientific experiment. The result is that the works emerge as concrete entities, rather than as transient, site-specific or dematerialized experiences. Continue reading

Puredata, or just Pd, is an open source tool for multimedia programming. Because of its open source nature, much of its development result from a community effort of developers worldwide. Some centers do have more people engaged, like the places that held the two previous conventions. The first convention took place in Graz, Austria, in 2004. The second happened in Montreal, Canada, in 2007. It is a great satisfaction that we continue this event by bringing it to yet another continent, with the intent to promote the formation of an important group of developers locally.
