Aside from it’s wii-like accelerametor ( movement gestures as data for controlling software ), the iPhone’s touchscreen interface and hard-drive with internal operating system, makes it a potentially awesome device for manipulating software. Say hello then, to the i3L MIDI BRIDGE for the iPhone by artificialeyes.tv, software developed to work with their upcoming 3D software 3L (‘thrill’). Software that translates the sliding and pressing on the touchscreen into midi information, which is sent wirelessly to a small piece of software on the desktop, which in turn can be routed to the software application of your choice. In my case below, this was VDMX. Is it fun to use? Hell yeah!

This will be a one hour performance of live sound mixing, video, and performative actions centered around a tapestry of game boards. As with past GCM performances, the audio is the central component of the performance, with video, installation and actions augmenting the sound. Musicians in Hang Zhou, Bangkok, Durban, Brussels, New York, and Braunschweig will each begin a solo concert, transmitting the music real-time to each city. During the concerts, brain activities of each musician will be recorded by the Brain Avatar which, created by Martin Schoene, is the first analogue visualization of real-time brain activity. The brainwaves, in their direct form as sound are projected as resonance in water and light. Emerging shapes and processes allow for visualization of mental states and movement of thought. What appears to the auditor as a structured and syncopated whole, arises from a vast array of largely unrelated sonic events, some intentional, many accidental. Joseph Nechvatal’s Review of Ryoji Ikeda Datamatics [ver 2.0], Centre Pompidou, Paris, October 29, 2007 - Datamatics [ver 2.0] is the latest electronic audio/visual creation of Japanese composer Ryoji Ikeda where he mines data mania for both the material and the theme of his work. The intention is a meditation on the wild relationship between the sound of data and the data of sound today. The effect, however, is a furious formalism that effectively entices, but flattens and thins out the longer it goes on. That said, the macabre grandeur of Datamatics2, with its repetitive super-coded/anti-coded rigor, is stunningly beautiful on début. A furious rhythm of inscrutable data discord is established from the beginning, necessarily entailing a process of attraction/repulsion that intimidated me while spawning some sublime ideas. The performance came about as a result of experimentation within the immersive installation SpherAleas. 14th of February to 24th of June, 2003 - Composition / Sound Installation (Site Specific Piece), Djurgården, Stockholm, 2003: by Lina Selander - The night sky of Stockholm, photographed during many nights. Stars, clouds, lightnings and moons, maybe a gull or a bat, mostly darkness. The photos of this sky (fields, spots, lines and dots) were then used as a musical score, digitally transformed into the sound which is buried in the ground. The sound is led under the ground through sewer pipes, and can be heard from three holes.
