juum-auros.jpgJuum-Auro - Net-concert Seattle, USA / Évora, Portugal :: June 14, 2007; 13:30 - 21:30 [PST]:: DXARTS Audio Studio → Grande auditório do Colégio Espírito Santo :: University of Washington → Universidad de Évora :: Seattle USA → Évora, Portugal :: Juum duet will perform a set of three improvisations in Seattle USA. The musical material will be analyzed and the parameters will be send over the Internet in real-time. The values will be used by the Auro duet for reconstructing the material at the Grande auditório do Colégio Espírito Santo, at the Universidade de Évora :: Hugo Solís, electronics + Mauricio Rodríguez, electronics; Gabriela Villa, viola + Laura Puras, flute.

Juum Duet, integrated by Hugo Solís and Gabriela Villa, is a free electroacoustic improvisation ensemble created at the beginning of year 2006. Both musicians, native Mexicans, share interdisciplinary interests and education which include music, music technology, digital media and speech. Juum Duet is born as a response to the intention of developing ideas parting from music improvisation and digital means determined to convene a listening willing to deautomate itself. The possibility of combining the expressivity of an acoustic voice with technologies as malleable as the digital medium results into an alternate sonority.

From an aesthetic apparatus deprived of the current rules and apart from the mass-media music -the act of freely improvising through some sort of struggling with the aesthetic apparatus itself-, Juum Duet offers the possibility of going beyond the boundaries maintaining itself within a border which opens a window to its two integrand’s reality. New sonorities and the rupture of the figurative image within new music’s sense, make music past and present which have survived time in possible and impossible variants of aesthetic content coexist.

In Juum Duet’s music spectres from distant times live together within a space constructed by sonorities in which the energy content of action that makes them real becomes of great importance. Thoughtful observation of the nature of pure and impure sound, the dissolution of time and its formal fluttering place us before new musical parameters in which the very reality of matter itself turns into the axis of the act of discourse. Re-emerging from an acoustic voice (viola) in coalescence with sounds created through electronic means, we find in Juum Duet fragments being related to elements which were foreign to them before: air currents emerging from chaos.

The listener who seeks a safe handle in music, will be confronted throughout the sonorous experience of free improvisation, a construction which will invite and place him before the action of active listening. Music may have died, but only to have liberated sonorous energies come to pass, radical sensory experiences which do not abate before that which is decorative nor before that which is hedonic, a material intending to surprise the following instant.
