Live Stage: Puzzle Master [Waltham, MA]

event109a.jpgBrandeis Electro-Acoustic Music Studio (BEAMS) at Spingold Theater Center present Puzzle Master. This is multimedia opera, a retelling of the Daedalus and Icarus myth, is set on an imaginary Caribbean island. Five singers perform in counterpoint with layers of computer-manipulated 5.0 channel surround sound and multiple video projections. Music by Eric Chasalow; libretto by F.D. Reeve; video by Denise Marika. Featuring performances by Jennifer Ashe, Donald Wilkinson, Pamela Dellal, Matthew Anderson, and Paul Guttry. Eric Hewitt conducts. Staging by Barbara Cassidy.

For the past twenty years, Neil Leonard has used the computer to redefine jazz performance. Along the way, he has created a number of custom software-based systems to extract thematic material from his improvisations to allow a computer to respond and jam with him in real-time. Leonard’s work as a cutting-edge technologist is grounded in years of performance and studies with seminal jazz composers Bob Brookmeyer and George Russell. Continue reading

In a gesture of sonic peace around the world, the Deep Listening Institute with funding from the New York State Music Fund and NYSCA presents the Deep Listening Convergence from January 15-June 10, 2007. This unique project was conceived as an opportunity to bring together 45 international artists, from the Deep Listening label, Deep Listening certificate program and other friendly collaborators across the globe, to use state-of-the-art Web 2.0 technology. These artists are collaborating in an unprecedented online residency jamming over Skype, holding message forums on Basecamp, forming new, diverse ensembles and posting recorded sessions on Imeem. Live Stage: Performance of Cage Song Books [NYC, NY]

cage.jpgThere will be a performance of John Cage’s Song Books, a non-foreseeable music theatre, with Kara Feely, Jessica Feldman, Gisburg, Beth Griffith, Travis Just, Christian Kesten, Dafna Naphtali, Craig Shepard, Harris Wulfson on Tuesday May 1st 2007 at 8:30 pm. at Medicine Show Theatre, 549 West 52nd, 3rd Floor, New York. Admission: $10.

John Cage’s “Song Books”, which he wrote in 1970, consist of 90 solos. Cage uses a wide variety of vocal styles: Imitations of classical opera arias by Mozart, Satie-like chansons, folk singing, pop singing, Indian raga style, breath sounds, cheerleader shouting, Cage’s special technique of “falsetto and grunts”, or Cage’s own type of Aria or Arioso: a virtuoso performance will include a wide variety of styles of singing and vocal production.

Art's Birthday 2007 and 100 Years of Radio Online

Art’s Birthday is an annual exchange-art event celebrated on January 17th by a loose collection of artists and artist organizations around the world. It was first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou.

Live Stage: Robert Adrian X [at Vienna, Austria]

adrian_figure.jpgROBERT ADRIAN X EXHIBITION AT GALERIE GRITA INSAM, VIENNA :: Artist, pioneer in early telematic art, and Kunstradio online founder Robert Adrian X will show new work at the Galerie Grita Insam, An der Hülben 3, 1010 Vienna, from May 11-June 23, 2007. The opening is on May 10th, 2007, at 7pm.

On 24th May his new audio piece “Counting” will be replayed in the gallery. Counting by Robert Adrian X and Martin Leitner. For Kunstradio’s 20th anniversary this year, artist Robert Adrian X and technician Martin Leitner asked tradespeople to count in their mother tongue from 1 to 20. All the participants run small local businesses in the area of Wieden (Vienna) where Robert Adrian lives. The languages spoken range from Hindi and Chinese to Greek and Croatian – and they reflect the ethnic diversity of Vienna’s inhabitants.
