80+1 Kilpisjarvi — Climate Change (Finland): Part of 80+1-project by Ars Electronica :: Conference: July 15-18, 2009 :: Call for Participation.

80 + 1 Kilpisjarvi will host a four day conference (July 15-18) open for participation via the global window in Linz and via stream online. During the four days researchers will present a variety of issues about climate change in the arctic and globally. The themes vary from animal adaptability to societies’ preparedness to a changing environment. The audience has the opportunity to pose questions and discuss climate change with experts. The afternoon offers a video-screening program of artistic approaches related to the topic of climate change. Continue reading

Sending snippets of communiqués across the ether, the work plays with interpretation, point of view and the imperfections of streaming technology. CineGrid - Digital Cinema

CineGrid is an international research initiative that was established to promote research, development and deployment of new distributed applications of ultra-high performance digital media (sound and picture) over advanced networks, using Grid computing technologies for networked collaboration. The CineGrid project will combine the state-of-the-art visual and audio recording technologies along with high-speed photonic networks and ultra sharp projection facilities to record and deliver very high quality moving images and sound across continents. A Day in a Life: Call for Participation

dial.jpgBuilding Bridges is the motto of Munich’s 850th birthday. The project A Day in a Life is going to establish virtual bridges: Munich is linked via livestreaming with some parts of the world. The public place Wittelsbacher Platz is connected via image and sound with – since now - the following cities: Curitiba / Brazil, Skopje / Macedonia, Wellington / New Zealand, London / England, Sendai / Japan.

Artists of diverse backgrounds are involved, working mainly through performative strategies. Sceneries involving the passers-by in every city are created. For example you may see four people of four countries at the same time on four screens, communicating via webcam their wishes oder questions as a sort of statement. Continue reading
