Situationist Drawing Device

“The Situationist Drawing Device is a backpack-sized mechanism for recording the experience of landscape. Designed by Ji Soo Han and Paul Ornsby, and operating by way of mirrors, the Device “records a journey taken in an altered state of perception through drawing.” It is an “intermediary and interpretative tool,” the designers add, one that stands between the human body and the landscape it exists within and explores.” [via]

Käthe-Kollwitz-Prize 2011: Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller — Award Ceremony and opening of Pariser Platz :: June 28, 2011; 7:00 pm :: Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz, Plenarsaal, Berlin.

The Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2011 has been awarded jointly to Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. On this occasion the artist duo from Canada will be showing four works in the Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts). The exhibition at Pariser Platz will focus on the construction and deconstruction of acoustic perception and illusionist spaces. The real occurrences in Cardiff’s and Miller’s stories only reveal themselves when people enter the space and engage their visual and tactile senses. Continue reading

The exhibition brings to the surface how images and information are communicated, and the aesthetic principles used in the act of transmission.

Olafur Eliasson: Your body of work [br São Paulo]

Olafur Eliasson: Your body of work :: September 30, 2011 - January 31, 2012 :: Part of SESC_Videobrasil: 17th International Contemporary Art Festival, :: São Paulo, Brazil.

Your body of work is Olafur Eliasson’s first solo exhibition in South America. Conceived by the Danish/Icelandic artist especially for, and in response to, the Brazilian city, the exhibition features ten site-specific installations that invite the public to experience the perception of colour, spatial orientation and other forms of engagement with reality.

Eliasson’s work will fill three venues in São Paulo: the SESC cultural centers in Pompeia and Belenzinho, in the west and east of the city, and the Pinacoteca do Estado, a hundred year old state-run museum downtown. Continue reading

Out-of-Sync: The Paradoxes of Time :: until May 22, 2011 :: Mudam Luxembourg, Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, 3, Park Dräi Eechelen, L-1499 Luxembourg.

Out-of-Sync broaches the sweeping issue of the place taken up by the dimension of time in the visual arts from a specific angle: it is concerned with works in which several temporalities coexist, overlap, contradict one another, thus developing a paradoxical relationship to time. Through this interest in what the philosopher Elie During, in his recent book Faux Raccords, calls “times out-of-tune” ["les temps désaccordés"], the works brought together in the show are not meant to illustrate or define the notion of time. On the contrary, they offer us an experience of its elusive nature. Continue reading
