Support Local Autonomy Networks (Autonets)

Please support this inspiring and important project! Local Autonomy Networks (Autonets) is a line of mesh networked electronic clothing with the goal of building autonomous local networks that don’t rely on corporate infrastructure to function, inspired by community based, anti-racist, prison abolitionist responses to gendered violence. The project is focused on creating networks of communication to increase community autonomy and reduce violence against women, LGBTQI people, people of color and other groups who continue to survive violence on a daily basis. The Autonets garments, when activated, will alert everyone in range of the the local mesh network who is wearing another autonet garment that someone needs help and will indicate that person’s direction and distance. New Day New Standard: A Nanny Hotline

New Day New Standard — A public art project and nanny hotline: 646 699 3989.

New Day New Standard is a public art project and interactive hotline that informs nannies, housekeepers, eldercaregivers, and their employers about the landmark Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, passed in New York State in November 2010.

Built on an open source framework, New Day New Standard is a hybrid application that combines regular touchtone phones, Internet-based telephony, and performance art to create an interactive Spanish/ English know-your-rights audio campaign for domestic workers and their employers in New York State.

But this is no drab and dry reading of the law. When you call the New Day New Standard hotline number, you hear what sounds like a radio talk show, ‘hosted’ by Christine Lewis, a real nanny in New York whose charisma as a social justice organizer landed her a guest spot on The Colbert Report. Hz Journal: Dynamic Performance of Nature

[DPoN showing temperatures in the low-60's, clear skies, and winds out of the south (indicated by the vertically-oriented yellow streak to the right)] Dynamic Performance of Nature: Augmenting Environmental Perception Through Social Media And Architectural Informatics by Brian W. Brush, Yong Ju Lee & Noa Younse:

Abstract: Architecture has always functioned as a mediating structure between humans and the environments in which they live; a static assemblage of semi-inert materials orchestrated, amongst other things, to temper environmental forces for human habitation. With advances in material and communications technology, architectural assemblies no longer perform as impassive boundaries separating discrete conditions of occupation between environments. Hz Journal: From Plaintext Players to Avatar Actors: A Short Survey of Online Gaming Performance

[Eva and Franco Mattes aka 0100101110101101.ORG Reenactment of Valie Export and Peter Weibel's Tapp und Tastkino, (2007)] From Plaintext Players to Avatar Actors: A Short Survey of Online Gaming Performance by Mathias Jansson:

Performance art emerged in the mid-1960s into the 1970s and was a way to push the boundaries between art and everyday life. Many artists saw performance as an opportunity to bring art directly to the audience without having to detour through the galleries, curators or agents. Performance therefore often occurs outside the institutions on streets, squares or other public places. It was defined as an antithesis to theatre and the ideal was to “create an ephemeral and authentic experience for performer and audience in an event that could not be repeated, captured or purchased.”(1) Famous performance artists from this time are Yoko Ono, Joseph Beuys, Vito Acconci, Chris Burden and Marina Abramović. Interview with Leila Nadir and Cary Peppermint of Ecoarttech

[Indeterminate Hikes + (2012) Android App & Performance. Whitney Museum of American Art ISP Exhibition, The Kitchen, NYC] Interview with Leila Nadir and Cary Peppermint of Ecoarttech by Sophia Kosmaoglou, Furtherfield.org:

Refusing to regard technology merely as a tool, Ecoarttech expand the uses of mobile technology and digital networks revealing them to be fundamental components of the way we experience our environment. Their most recent work Indeterminate Hikes + (IH +) is a phone app that maps a series of trails through the city. IH + can be accessed globally, or wherever users have access to Google Maps on their mobile phones. After identifying the users’ location, IH + generates a route along random “Scenic Vistas” within urban spaces. Users are directed to perform a series of tasks along the trail and provide feedback in the form of snapshots generating an ongoing, open-ended dialogue. Continue reading
