Turbulence Commission: PuréeData by Ted Hayes [Optimized for Google Chrome]:

PuréeData is a web-browser interface for a single shared sound environment that allows live, collaborative patching for anyone, anywhere. Visitors interact with a shared PureData audio synthesis patch and listen to the results as an MP3 stream, with no software to install or set up. The project is open-source, and all are encouraged to modify, improve and set up their own PuréeData servers.

PuréeData is a 2011 commission of New Radio and Performing Arts, Inc. for its Turbulence website. It was made possible with funding from the Jerome Foundation. Continue reading

Dérive @ Espace [im] média by François Quévillon :: until September 18, 2011 :: Outdoor interactive projection near the Marché the la Gare, 720 Place de la Gare, Sherbrooke, Quebec J1H 0E9, Canada.

Presented outdoors during Sherbrooke’s Espace [IM] Média festival, Dérive is a networked interactive installation by François Quévillon that invites the public to explore 3D models of urban spaces that are transformed according to environmental data collected in real time on the Web.

This first version of the installation presents 3D point clouds of Orleans (France), New York (USA), Sherbrooke and Montreal (Quebec, Canada) that were realized by the use of photogrammetry and geomatic data. Continue reading

Lan­franco Aceti, ISEA2011 Is­tan­bul Artis­tic Di­rec­tor and Con­fer­ence Chair, in­vites you to dis­cuss is­sues of con­tem­po­rary ecol­ogy, melt­ing of the poles and the im­por­tance of water in world cul­ture while bathing in the sur­round­ings of this his­tor­i­cal build­ing adorned with the art­work of Gavin Baily, Tom Corby and Jonathan Macken­zie.

The art­work you will see here shows the South­ern Ocean cir­cu­lat­ing the Antarc­tic land mass (cen­tral). The pro­ject soft­ware runs in real-time gen­er­at­ing the ocean cur­rents on the fly, to which are mapped var­i­ous other eco­log­i­cal data sets. Continue reading

This will sit in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop and when a broadcast goes live it will ‘ping’ loudly and display the incoming broadcast in a window in the middle of your screen.

Field Broadcast is a live broadcasting network/ project/ platform/ contraption that enables artists to make artworks that forge a direct link between the place they are broadcasting from and their audience. “R-Shief” by VJ Um Amel

R-Shief is a digital platform that provides real-time analysis of opinion in the Arab world about late-breaking issues. By using aggregate data from Twitter and the Web, R-Shief can dissect how people in Egypt are reacting to, say, the latest changes to the constitutional process, or how Libyans perceive the presence of NATO forces and Bahrainis perceive the presence of Saudi military, or how the pro-regime supporters in Syria are acting out on social media platforms. We are achieving this through the results of our Pan-Arab Internet aggregator as well as Twitter data mining tools, and by publishing data visualizations based on findings. Continue reading
