“Mountain Ghosts” by Halsey Burgund

Mountain Ghosts by Halsey Burgund :: until mid-November :: Galleries of Contemporary Art, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Mountain Ghosts is a site-specific sound art installation that infuses the entire University of Colorado / Colorado Springs campus with a location-based layer of audio created collectively by the artist and participants. Building on Burgund’s interest in systems, collected voices, and participation, Mountain Ghosts explores sound as fundamental to our experiences of space, place and history. Participants use a custom smartphone app to make audio recordings that the Mountain Ghosts system then codes by location and immediately assimilates into a collective databank for other visitors to access. Tracing Mobility sets out to examine the shifting terrain of global versus individual mobility and how its hand in hand development with networked infrastructure is transforming our conceptions of time, space and distance.

WE ARE OPEN: Trampoline opens a platform to anyone who has something to say about mobility and migration in the networked space. Continue reading

“Urban Rhythms” by Jody Zellen

Urban Rhythms will be an artwork for the iPhone, iPad and Android platforms. I have been fortunate to have already received two grants for the development of the project; an Investing in Artists Grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation and an Artist Fellowship from the City of Santa Monica. These funds plus any others I accrue will be used to adapt the project for the iPad and Android devices and to integrate my data visualization project, The Unemployed into the App.

This artwork continues my investigations into the relationship between hand drawn and computer generated figures and consists of a series of interactive animations where viewers can add figures to the mobile device’s screen and direct their movements and interactions by shaking the device or moving their finger over the screen. SALT Beyoğlu [tr Istanbul]

SALT presents Becoming Istanbul, 90 and The Making Of Beyoğlu :: September 13 - December 31, 2011.

SALT Beyoğlu’s second comprehensive exhibition Becoming Istanbul will be accompanied by parallel programs 90 and The Making Of Beyoğlu. Turkey’s aim to find itself a valid place within the global networks of politics, economy, commerce, culture and tourism has become the burden of İstanbul. The city is promoted to new users, both locally and internationally, with imagery far removed from its actual overall state and infrastructure. SALT Beyoğlu will host three projects that examine İstanbul from different vantage points, attempting to offer a more multifaceted understanding of the city. Continue reading
