The Abramović Method [it Milan]

The Abramović Method :: March 21 - June 10, 2012 :: Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea (PAC), Via Palestro 14, Milan, Italy.

The Abramović Method is born out of reflections developed by Marina Abramović on the basis of her last three performances, The House With the Ocean View (2002), Seven Easy Pieces (2005) and The Artist is Present (2010), experiences that have left a deep imprint on her perception of her work in relation to the public.

It will thus be the public, guided and prompted by the artist, that experiences her “interactive installations” in The Abramović Method, produced with the support of Rottapharm | Madaus. Continue reading

Time-Lapse [us Santa Fe, NM]

SITE Santa Fe Presents Time-Lapse:

Time-Lapse challenges the notion that an exhibition is a fixed entity with artworks that remain consistent throughout the time the exhibition in on view. Time-Lapse explores the possibility of a more dynamic exhibition environment by including artworks that change over time and utilizing curatorial structures that are based on change. With hourly, daily, and weekly alterations to the works in the show, no two days of Time-Lapse will be the same.

The concept of change over time is integrated into the structure of installations in SITE’s galleries by Byron Kim, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Eve Sussman| Rufus Corporation, and Mary Temple. Continue reading

Textil{e}tronics: From the Textile to the Electronic Thread, From Substance to Fashion Item:

Dealing with sculptural textile (J. Štefanec) and electronic thread (A. Klančić), designed substance and new meanings of objects (P. Dona), as well as socially responsible textile art (M. M. Pungerčar), the exhibition presents an overview of contemporary new media directions and questions the meaning of the medium as such. Continue reading

An Introduction To Mayan New Media

Crossing Wires: Technology and Play [us Evanston, IL]

[Apple/apple (Beta) by Dan Silverstein and Dave Tolchinsky. Picture credit: Tom Van Eynde] Crossing Wires: Technology and Play :: until April 15, 2012 :: Evanston Art Center, 2603 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL.

Technology has traditionally been used to make what functions function faster, easier and more efficiently. We expect computers, robots and machines to continue to take over the performance of chores and ramp up the production of goods. But what happens when technology is used for the non-functional, to make what is functional less functional? What happens when technology, especially complex technology, is used simply for … art or for play? Continue reading
