The concept of information visualization is not brand new, yet today it is a trending topic not only in the fields of art and design but also in social sciences, journalism and governmental strategies. Day by day, tools for data creation is improving, online social networks are gathering more people and the amount of digital data is rapidly increasing. In the recent years, this emerging field began to provide us many different visual outputs in various forms. But, is it possible to think of information visualization in casual forms in our daily life, or even as a source of fashion design? This exhibition presents two projects involved in information visualisation on daily wearables. Both of the projects display online information created by mass media and social platforms as fashionable patterns for daily clothing. Supported by Municipality of Prague 1 and the City of Prague.
News Knitter, 2007, by Ebru Kurbak & Mahir M. Yavuz: This is a data visualization project that focuses on knitted garments as an alternative medium to visualize large-scale data. It consists of ten unique sweaters that are produced as sample outputs. The patterns of the sweaters are generated by using online global news of a particular day or local Turkish news of a particular time period.
Urbansphere Wearables, 2009, by Mahir M. Yavuz: The project aims to reflect the mood of the city by utilizing the data streams of social networks such as Twitter as a source of fashion design. In this edition there will be a set of t-shirts with unique patterns that are generated from tweets posted from Prague.
