Lost Guides is a project which combines traditional storytelling, moving image and the ubiquity of the internet to examine lifestyles without a fixed abode. Stemming from the idea of the digital nomad from a former work,'Empty Velocity', this project continues the investigation of living impermanence. Eng spent the last 3 years from 2000-2003 traveling the world living similar to a nomadic life. From these recent experiences she developed a fictitious story where the ancient meets contemporary processes.

The Lost Guides performance was organized as both a physical and on-line event. A portable structure was built to house the performers and project images. Video and sound artists were selected to interpret the Lost Guides' visions as a cinematic time based video and sound performance. The performance was on April 15, 2003 at The New Museum of Contemporary Art and www.turbulence.org.

Lost Guides is a 2001 commission of New Radio and Performing Arts Inc. with funds from the Jerome Foundation. Additional funding was provided by an Experimental Television Presentation Grant. Support and presentation of the performance provided by New Museum of Contemporary Art. Special thanks to Vidvox for use of their software.
